Peoria City shuts out Wichita 3-0

PEORIA, IL – The boys were out with a vengeance Friday night.

Bouncing back after a Week 1 loss, Peoria City shut out FC Wichita 3-0 home at Shea Stadium.

In the 20th minute, Danail Sergiev made a beautiful move on the Wichita defender attacking into the box. Drawing out a second defender and the goalie, Sergiev served up the perfect pass to Jonas Lyshøj for the goal. Good guys up 1-0.

Nearly 20 minutes later, Peoria’s own Noah Madrigal tacks on a second goal, leading us into half-time up 2-0.

Madrigal tacked on his second goal of the night in the second half. This gives the Peoria Notre Dame grad 3 goals in 2 games played.

The hometown heroes continued to shine Friday night. Goalkeeper Lucas Fontana had a clean sheet on the night. He credits the crowd, in particular The 309, on bringing the energy to Shea Stadium.

In a post-game interview, Madrigal talked about how amazing it is to play in front of his family. You can hear Fontana and Madrigal’s post-game interviews across our social media channels.

Ahead of Friday’s match, hundreds of soccer fans descended upon the five food trucks who served up some amazing food. Dos Hermanos, Haddad’s (Tony’s on Wheels), Sucree Sweets & Socials, Sweet Girl Treats and Tropical Sno gave Shea Stadium some of the best food and dessert available for soccer fans across the globe.

The crowd was electric as usual. Drum line, chanting and viking horns rang out across the pitch.

Peoria City hosts one more game at home before hitting the road. Catch us in action next Saturday, June 3rd, as we host Chicago City SC.

Ahead of the match, head to Bearded Owl Brewing where we will be unveiling this season’s Peoria City Pils.

“Peoria will play home to future stars of American soccer.”
