Fontana secures clean sheet in first Peoria City start

PEORIA, IL – Peoria’s got a lot to be proud of when it comes to their homegrown soccer players Friday night.

Peoria Notre Dame grad Lucas Fontana started in goal for the home team, bringing home a shutout heading into the Memorial Day weekend.

Fontana gave credit to his defenders on helping keep the sheet clean Friday night.

“They did amazing today. Really good cleaning up today and stopping their attack,” Fontana says.

Fontana had to shoutout the offense of scoring three goals in tonight’s match.

“They did everything offensively. They’re so good offensively. They’re very clean, our passes our crisp, and we were attacking in their half a lot,” Fontana adds.

Fontana keeps the warmup routine the same every game. But he credits The 309 Friday night for giving Peoria City Soccer the edge we needed.

“The 309 and the fans here, they’re the most important part. Getting us ready to go, getting us excited to play; we love playing in front of them,” Fontana says.

Fontana and Peoria City host Chicago City SC next Saturday, June 3rd with a kick-off time of 7:30 PM.

“Peoria will play home to future stars of American soccer.”
