PEORIA, IL (May 20, 2022) – Ahead of tonight’s rematch of the season opener against Minneapolis City SC, Peoria City has announced the signings of D Nils Buchwalder, GK Kevin Qi, D Daniel Oliveira, M Samuel Villalta and D Tyler Freitas.
Buchwalder hails from Bochum, Germany. He plays collegiate soccer at the University of New Hampshire, an NCAA DI school. This season, Buchwalder has played in 7 games for UNH and has started in 5 of those 7 games. Prior to college, Buchwalder played for RSV Meinerzhagen and won the Westphalian Cup with them in 2020.
Qi, from West Des Moines, Iowa, currently plays at Drake University (NCAA DI). He had an impressive high school career playing both high school and club soccer. His sophomore and junior years he received honorable mention all-state honors. His junior year he recorded 114 saves and an .870 save percentage for Valley High School. His club team Sporting Iowa won four straight state championships with him in between the posts.
Oliveira, from Lisbon, Portugal, played at the University of Akron. While he was there he played in 4 games, recording a shot on goal and an assist. Prior to attending the University of Akron, he led Sporting CP to two Lisbon Championships while also being a captain of the team for three years.
Villalta, hails from Valencia, Spain. He plays collegiate soccer at University of the Pacific (NCAA DI). In his two seasons there he has appeared in 21 matches and started in 20 of them. Throughout his time there he’s recorded a goal and 2 assists. His junior year he recorded 1131 minutes played.
Freitas, a standout defender from Providence, Rhode Island, has played at the USL League One level with NE Revolution II. Prior to that he played for the U16 and U18 teams, as well. Tallying over 1,000 minutes of action. He will be a key piece on the back end for Peoria City this season.

Following the weekend road trip to Minneapolis City SC and St. Croix SC, Peoria City returns home to host defending USL League Two champion Des Moines Menace Friday (7:00 pm) at Bradley University’s Shea Stadium.
