(PEORIA, Ill.) — Peoria City is honored to announce USL League Two has selected the third-year club to host the USL League Two National Championship Saturday, Aug. 3 at Bradley University’s Shea Stadium.
Having swept through the first four rounds of the USL League Two Playoffs, Central Conference champion Peoria City will host Eastern Conference champion Seacoast United Phantoms in Saturday’s national championship game.
Seacoast United, out of New Hampshire, defeated Asheville City SC 1-0 Sunday night, while Peoria City dominated FC Tucson 5-1 in a Sunday afternoon scorcher.
This will be the third consecutive weekend USL League Two has chosen Peoria City to host postseason play in the River City.
The Peoria franchise is only the second team in USL League Two history to defeat both Des Moines and Flint City in the postseason.
The League’s hosting decisions were based on multiple factors, including operational standards, fan attendance, digital engagement and more.
“We’re so excited to bring the 2024 Final to Peoria. From the club’s leadership and staff all the way down to the fans in the stands, the club not only understands soccer, but it understands community,” said Joel Nash, USL’s Senior Vice President of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties. “What they’ve been able to build there in three years is a testament to the best of what this league can be for our clubs. These two teams have worked incredibly hard this season, and we can’t wait to celebrate both of their efforts this weekend.”
In advance of the 7:30 p.m. kickoff, the Industry Brewing Tailgate Zone will open at 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Tropical Sno, Tony’s on Wheels and Orchid Grove Beverage Company have been confirmed as food and beverage vendors for the evening.
