(MAY 21, 2025 | TAMPA, FLORIDA) – Peoria City Rises to Top of USL 2 Power Rankings.
The milestones keep coming for the Peoria City men’s soccer team. After opening the regular season with back-to-back wins versus FC Ambush, Peoria City (2-0-0) has risen to the No. 1 spot in the weekly USL League Two Power Rankings for the first time in the club’s four-year history, according to the release of the rankings Wednesday afternoon.
After finishing the 2024 campaign as the USL League Two national runner up, Peoria City opened the season in the No. 2 position. The club earned a 2-1 win May 10 at FC Ambush to start the season, then added a 3-1 home win versus the same opponent this past Saturday at Shea Stadium. Meanwhile, 2024 national champion Seacoast United Phantoms dropped a 1-0 decision to AC Connecticut Sunday, opening the door for Peoria City’s rise to the top spot.
“Peoria City has come out of the gates looking like the USL League Two finalists they were last season,” as noted in the Power Rankings article posted at uslleaguetwo.com. “Two dominant wins on the bounce against FC Ambush, now the side returns on the road to face a Santafe Wanderers side that fell to divisional rival Des Moines.”
USL League Two is the nation’s top pre-professional men’s soccer league, which features 144 teams competing from coast-to-coast during the 2025 season. Peoria City is the defending League Two Central Conference champion and has qualified for the playoffs in two of its first three seasons. Last year, the club was selected to host each round of the League Two Playoffs at Bradley University’s Shea Stadium as it advanced all the way to the national championship game.
The Peoria City men will be on the road for their next two games: Saturday (4:00 p.m.) in Kansas City at Santa Fe Wanderers and May 31 (7:30 pm) at Springfield FC. The club returns home to host Springfield FC Tuesday, June 3 (7:30 p.m.). Single-game tickets for all Peoria City men’s and women’s home games at Shea Stadium begin at just $6 and are available in advance by visiting PeoriaCitySoccer.com/tickets.
While the Peoria City men will be on the road the next two weekends, the Peoria City women’s team will make its home debut Saturday night (7:00 p.m.), hosting Lou Fusz Athletic to begin a 3-game home stand. The women also will host Junction FC May 28 (7:30 p.m.) to kick off the area’s newest I-74 rivalry, before stepping out of WPSL action for a premier exhibition versus the reserve team from NWSL member Kansas City Current Saturday, May 31 (7:30 p.m.).
Saturday’s home debut will come on Youth Soccer Night – all youth soccer players wearing their school, club or rec soccer jersey will receive free admission – and the game will be followed by Peoria City’s first postgame fireworks show of the season.
