Strong showing by Peoria City, fans in home opener despite loss

(PEORIA, Ill. – May 20, 2023) — It was a tale of two halves Saturday night for Peoria City.

Striking first was Peoria, Illinois’ own Noah Madrigal. The Peoria Notre Dame grad gives Peoria City their first goal of the 2023 season.

St. Charles FC scored in the 29th minute to tie the match, but Abdel Talabi gave the Carps a 2-1 lead in the 35th minute. Both goals were headers after corner kicks.

We entered the second half in the lead when St. Charles FC upped the pressure in the second.

STCFC scored their second goal in the 68th minute, tying it up. Ten minutes later they added on the third and final goal to take a 2-3 lead.

While the end result wasn’t what we hoped for, we are extremely thankful for the support we have received from fans, local businesses, and our sponsors.

Tonight we broke our attendance record! 1,373 Peoria City fans entered into Shea Stadium to cheer on the squad. Let’s get back to work this week and look for our first season win next Friday.

We’ll be back at home with 5 food trucks serving food all night.

“Peoria will play home to future stars of American soccer.”
