PEORIA IL (July 2, 2022) – Peoria City, coming off its first victory at home Friday against FC Manitoba, is set to take on the Thunder Bay Chill for one final home match in the regular season on Sunday night at 7 o’clock at Shea Stadium.
An impressive effort all around from Peoria City, highlighted by two goals from forward Justin Freitas, helped the first-year USL League Two expansion franchise gain three crucial points from a 3-2 victory against FC Manitoba ahead of Sunday’s matchup against Deep North Division rival Thunder Bay.
These two teams are in a battle for the final playoff spot in the Deep North Division. Peoria City currently stands at (5-2-3, 18 points), while Thunder Bay sits at (3-1-3, 12 points). Thunder Bay has played three fewer games than Peoria City, making this a crucial must win game for Peoria to strengthen its odds of making the playoffs.
Thunder Bay’s last match was also on Friday in which it traveled to Des Moines to take on the Menace, and for only the second time this season, forced a draw against Des Moines.
In addition to the playoffs storyline, Sunday’s matchup has an added local angle as Thunder Bay starters Jackson Fyda and Camden Kowalski are returning to their collegiate home as both will be third-year sophomores for Bradley during the 2022 fall college season.
