Playoff implications, first place on the line ahead of final home game

(PEORIA, Ill.) — Playoff dreams and first place implications all come to a head this Saturday, as Peoria City hosts the Des Moines Menace.

The Flying Carp’s first match of the season was on the road against Des Moines, who at the time was the #4 ranked team in USL League Two.

A 1-1 draw shocked almost everyone, securing a consequential point for Peoria City, and setting the tone for our season.

Our next three USL League Two matches were historic. 4-0, 6-0 and 6-0 victories over our opponents, followed by a 10-0 victory over Springfield FC in an exhibition match.

Reaching as high as #2 in the nation, Peoria City holds a 7-1-2 record and second place in the Heartland Division, just behind Des Moines.

But it’s not a done deal that Peoria makes the 2024 USL League Two playoffs. The Carp, with 23 points so far, need 1 more point in the final 2 matches to clinch a playoff spot, or a River Light FC draw or loss in the Aurora-based team’s final 2 matches of the season.

That’s why we’re calling on our fans, the best in the League, to show up and get loud this Saturday as we welcome Des Moines to Shea Stadium.

Led by The 309 supporters group, get involved in the chants! Bang on the drums, blow the horn and trumpet, and let’s end our home campaign on a strong note.

Ahead of Saturday’s match, gates to Shea Stadium will open at 5:30 PM, an hour earlier than normal. Food trucks will serve at 5:00 PM as usual. Our food vendors for Saturday are The Station, Triple Dipple’s, Sucre Sweets & Socials and Tony’s on Wheels (Haddad’s).

At 6:00 PM, catch some pro wrestling action by Iron Spirit Pro on the stadium concourse!

Saturday, July 6th is Kickin’ Out Cancer night, presented by Illinois Cancer Care.
