Peoria City WPSL wraps up historic inaugural season

(ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI) — Peoria City’s inaugural WPSL season was nothing short than historic.

The Carp outscored their opponents 21-8 over the 2025 campaign, along with a 5-game win streak later on in the season.

Four of those five wins were clean sheets by goalkeeper Peyton Rhodes (Illinois).

AJ Mayock (East Carolina) led the scoring this season with 7 goals.

But the WPSL season would come to an end Friday night, after a 2-3 loss to division-leading Lou Fusz Athletic.

Both the WPSL II and WPSL were pushed back due to weather, initially.

Before the weather delay, Lou Fusz would be leading the match 0-1. They would tack on a second after the weather delay, in the form of a penalty kick.

Peoria would be trailing 0-2 at the half.

But Peoria took the fight to Lou Fusz in the second half, with Emily Murphy (Green Bay) scoring two goals. Her first was assisted by Lily Sutter (Lindenwood).

Unfortunately, Lou Fusz would knock in their third and final goal of the night, giving them the victory over Peoria.

Peoria City’s WPSL squad will end the season with a 5-3-0 record, earning 15 points in their first-ever season.

Not to mention Peoria hosted a high-caliber exhibition match in their inaugural season, hosting Kansas City Current II on May 31.

The team has a lot to be proud of this season, and we’re already looking forward to 2026!
