(PEORIA, ILLINOIS) — In just its first year of existence, Peoria City WPSL is already taking on big name matchups at Shea Stadium.
The Carp welcomed Kansas City Current II, an affiliate team for NWSL’s KC Current, to town Saturday night. The Current II are currently touring on a WPSL exhibition schedule.
It would remain even throughout the first 45 minutes, with both teams putting on solid chances on net.
In the 56th minute, captain Bree Cordray (Illinois Wesleyan University) would make a defensive save on an open net, keeping the game tied 0-0.
That 0-0 even score would continue into the 80th minute, until KC Current II would score.
Carp trail 0-1 heading into stoppage time. The ref indicates a minimum of 5 minutes.
Before the match ends, KC Current II scores a second goal, and that would wrap up the scoring on the night.
KC heads to St. Louis Sunday for an exhibition match against Peoria’s WPSL rival, Lou Fusz Athletic.
The Carp are back at home on Saturday, June 7th, hosting Missouri Reign.
