Peoria City wins WPSL matchup 3-0 over Missouri Reign

(PEORIA, ILLINOIS) — Between the two matches on Peoria City’s WPSL sides played on Saturday, the Carp shutout their opponents 10-0.

First up was Peoria City’s WPSL II team taking on Missouri Reign II. A rainy Saturday afternoon match was met by mild temperatures and a whole lot of Peoria City goals.

The WPSL II squad defeated the Reign 7-0 at Peoria Notre Dame High School.

The rain kept pouring and the Carp kept scoring, as Peoria’ WPSL main roster took on Missouri Reign at Shea Stadium Saturday night.

All goals would come in the first half, starting with an Emily Murphy (Green Bay) goal, assisted by Erika Wells (Illinois State).

Minutes later, Peoria City would drive on the attack again. Leah Crotty (Coastal Carolina) put in the perfect pass to Yeirdan Padilla (Heartland Community College), who would dribble past the goalie and score the Carp’s second of the night. 2-0 Peoria City.

A Reign foul just outside the goalkeeper’s box would set up a set piece for Peoria. AJ Mayock (University of Illinois) crosses it in, finding the head of Aniya Seymore (Illinois State). Seymore’s header would find Crotty, who chested the ball down to her feet, striking in the shot without it even hitting the grass. 3-0 Peoria.

The Carp would maintain their 3-0 lead until the very end of the match. Peoria’s WPSL squad has outscored their opponents 10-0 in the last two matches.

Peoria City WPSL heads to Champaign, Illinois on Wednesday, taking on Junction FC at Centennial High School.

The match starts at 6:00 p.m. and will be streamed on the National Soccer Network’s YouTube channel.

Peoria’s final WPSL home match of the regular season will take place on Sunday, June 15th at 2:00 p.m.

FC Pride out of Indianapolis come to town. Peoria will be looking for retribution, after a 1-2 loss to the Pride in their season opener back on May 16.
