(JUNE 30, 2025 | PEORIA, IL) – Peoria City is preparing for fireworks on the pitch and in the sky as the race for the 2025 USL League Two Playoffs heats up in the final two weeks of the regular season.
For the first time in the club’s four-year history, Peoria City (7-2-0, 21 points) could host the number one ranked team in the USL League Two Power Rankings when the rival Des Moines Menace (8-1-0, 24 points) visits Shea Stadium Wednesday night. Not only is Wednesday’s game a matchup of the top two teams in the Great Plains Division table, but it pairs two teams that have held the nation’s top spot in the Power Rankings for five weeks this season (Peoria City May 21-June 10 and Des Moines each of the last two weeks).
With its first-ever outright victory against Des Moines, Peoria City would clinch a spot in the USL League Two Playoffs for the third time in its four-year history. Having already secured a playoff spot, a Des Moines victory Wednesday would clinch the Great Plains Division title for the Menace. Following the action on the field, Wednesday’s showdown will be followed by Peoria City’s second postgame fireworks show in the sky above Shea Stadium.
Wednesday’s game will be Peoria FC United Night at Shea Stadium and club families have been provided the link to a dedicated ticket-buying portal with a portion of the sales being donated back to PFCU. Peoria City also will recognize the historic season by the Peoria Notre Dame girls soccer team, 2025 IHSA Class 2A state finalist, during halftime Wednesday and the first 250 Prairie Home Alliance Play Packs will include Peoria City branded bucket hats, courtesy of TMArboProductions.
Peoria City’s season-ending, four-game home stand will continue Saturday night when the Flying Carp host Springfield FC for the third matchup of the season between the local rivals. Peoria City earned a 1-0 victory May 31 at Springfield, then followed up with a 6-0 home win in the return meeting three nights later at Shea Stadium.
Just three points behind Des Moines in the Great Plains Division table with three games remaining in the regular season, Peoria City also is eight points ahead of third-place Sunflower State FC. Earning at least two points from the two games this week will secure a postseason spot for Peoria City.
Both Peoria City home games this week will kick off at 7:30 pm at Bradley University’s Shea Stadium. Tickets start at just $6 and are available in advance online at peoriacitysoccer.com/tickets. The tailgate parking lot will open at 4:30 pm for both games.
