Peoria City Set to Face Familiar Foe

PEORIA, IL (May 19, 2022) – After seeing a win in its first-ever game escape with a last-second strike from Minneapolis City SC last Saturday night at Shea Stadium, Peoria City will look to score its first victory against the same opponent when the two USL League Two Deep North Division rivals meet again Friday at Breck School (McKnight Stadium).

Midfielder Gustavo Rodriguez and forward Gevork Diarbian tallied the two goals for Peoria City in Saturday’s season opener, while forward Eli Goldman was able to score both goals for Minneapolis City, including the game-tying goal in the final seconds of the extra time.

With the opening draw, Peoria City (1 point, 0-0-1) is tied for second with Minneapolis City (1 point, 0-1-1) in the early League Two Deep North Division standings. Both teams are still in search of their first victory of the season This will be a crucial game for both teams as 2nd place in the division is on the line. 

Following Friday’s game, Peoria City will remain in the Twin Cities area for a Deep North Division game Sunday at St. Croix SC, which dropped a 6-2 decision to Des Moines Menace in its season-opener last week.
