Peoria City scores 6 in front of record-breaking 2,017 fans

PEORIA, IL — Peoria City was on fire Sunday night in front of the greatest crowd we’ve seen all season.

2,017 supporters: A franchise-breaking record at Shea Stadium for Peoria City Soccer. And our players put on a show to close out the our home games strong.

Peoria’s own Noah Madrigal started the scoring off early with the assist of his former Peoria Notre Dame teammate Myles Sophanavong.

Later in the half, Jonas Lyshoj tacked on the second goal of the night to put Peoria City up 2-0.

Just minutes later, Springfield fouled Peoria in the box, leading to a penalty kick.

Christian Ortiz would put the PK away with ease in the bottom right section of the net.

Springfield would get a deflection goal off a set piece, putting Peoria’s lead to 3-1 at the half.

The “Prince of Peoria” would strike again in the 2nd half, as Noah Madrigal knocked in his 2nd goal of the night.

Peoria would keep up the heat as Danail Sergiev put one past the keeper, making it 5-1.

While we would’ve loved another one of our players to get the 6th goal of the night, we’ll take the own goal we were given. 6-1 Peoria City to end the night.

This win marked a 3-game win streak for Peoria City and has it at 6-5 on the season.

Wednesday night, Peoria City fans are invited to Donnelly’s Irish Pub for an end of season party to celebrate the players.

Peoria City then heads to Des Moines for the final game of the season on Saturday, July 15th.

“Peoria will play home to future stars of American soccer.”
