As Peoria City prepares for its third USL League Two season, the club has announced an expanded summer schedule that will include a pair of inaugural Cup challenges.
Competing in the Heartland Division of the USL League Two Central Conference, Peoria City will play 12 league games in a home-and-home, round-robin schedule against the division’s other six members and the Carp have added a two-game exhibition series versus Springfield FC. The full, 14-game slate will include seven home games at Bradley University’s Shea Stadium.
Of the seven home games on the summer docket, five will be played on Saturday nights with the midweek home tilts scheduled in close proximity to the summer’s two major holidays: Wednesday, May 29, two days after Memorial Day; and Tuesday, July 2, two days before Independence Day. All Peoria City matches are scheduled for 7:30 pm kick offs at Shea Stadium, allowing fans plenty of time to enjoy the party-packed tailgate experience outside the stadium.
For the third consecutive season, Peoria City will compete for its division crown with perennial USL League Two power Des Moines Menace. The Carp will face that challenge from the opening kick by starting the 2024 campaign Saturday, May 11 in Des Moines. Peoria City will close its regular-season home schedule Saturday, July 6 by hosting Des Moines for the return matchup at Shea Stadium.
Following the starting visit to Des Moines, three of the next four games will be played at Shea Stadium, beginning with the 2024 home opener Saturday, May 18 versus Chicago Dutch Lions FC. The Heartland Division rivals will quickly complete their season series when Peoria City heads to Aurora College for the return matchup against Chicago Dutch Lions FC Wednesday, May 22.
Peoria City will host USL League Two newcomer Sueño FC Wednesday, May 29, then will step out of League Two competition to host Springfield FC in the first leg of the inaugural Lincoln Cup Saturday, June 1 at Shea Stadium. Following another trip to Aurora for a League Two matchup against River Light FC Thursday, June 6, Peoria City and Springfield FC will settle their Lincoln Cup challenge Tuesday, June 11 in Riverton. The inaugural Lincoln Cup champion will be determined by the combined scoring in the two exhibition matches.
Of the season’s final seven games, four will be played at Shea Stadium, beginning with consecutive matches Saturday, June 15 versus River Light FC, followed by the first round of the inaugural River Cities Cup series versus St. Charles FC Saturday, June 22. With a visit to Chicago City SC in between on Wednesday, June 26, Peoria City and St. Charles FC will complete their River Cities Cup rivalry Saturday, June 29 in St. Peters, MO.
The Carp will wrap their 2024 regular-season home schedule with a pair of games on either side of the Independence Day holiday. After hosting Chicago City SC Tuesday, July 2, Peoria City will face powerhouse Des Moines Menace in the home finale Saturday, July 6.
