(CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS) — AJ Mayock is used to playing high-quality soccer in Champaign, Illinois for the University of Illinois. This time she got the chance to shine for Peoria City.
And it didn’t take long! In the third minute, Mayock would knock in her first goal of the night, assisted by Emily Murphy (Green Bay).
Three minutes later, Mayock would fire in a one-timer shot clear past the keeper. Assist goes to Rylann Law (Illinois State).
Roughly 20 minutes later, Mayock would drive into Junction’s territory and rip a shot on net. The keeper would block the initial shot, but Mayock was persistent, flying past the defense and keeper and sending in a follow-up goal.
Junction would score off a set piece in the first half, but that would do it for the first half. Carp go into the break leading 3-1.
And that’s how the match would finish as well. Neither team could find the back of the net in the second half, leaving Peoria with a 3-1 victory over Junction FC.
Mayock would be named the night’s Woman of the Match after her stellar performance, including a hat trick.
Peoria City WPSL is at home for the final home match of the regular season, hosting FC Pride.
A 2:00 p.m. kick-off will see a rematch between the two squads vying for the top of the Division. The Pride defeated Peoria 1-2 in the first match of the season, after hours worth of weather delays. Peoria will be looking for revenge on Sunday afternoon.
