(PEORIA, ILL.) — Peoria City’s storybook 2024 season was led by goal-scoring superstar Luke Persenico (Clarke University).
The NAIA player was overlooked by multiple other USL League Two squads, but when Peoria City Head Coach was offered the position in Peoria, he knew Persenico had to come with him.
The “underdog” knocked in 16 goals and 7 assists during the USL League Two season and postseason combined. With a hat trick against FC Tucson, this propelled Persenico to 7 goals during the off season alone.
Persenico was named the 2024 Heartland Division Player of the Year by USL League Two on August 27th.
One week later, he was named to the 2024 Team of the Year in the forward position.
“His volumes of goals across the season was absolutely brilliant, a terror no matter what defense he came up against,” USL League Two said in a release. “He carried that form throughout the season and into playoffs, scoring seven goals in four matches before reaching the final. No matter what happens now, many more people know the name Luke Persenico.”
Persenico has returned to Clarke University for his senior season.
