GK Strike in 95th Minute Delivers Draw

PEORIA, IL (June 3, 2022) – Peoria City fresh off a 4-2 loss to the defending USL League Two Champions, the Des Moines Menace, stepped back on home field again tonight to take on St Croix.

Peoria dominated the first half early, holding most of the ball throughout the first 30 minutes of play. However it was St. Croix striking first in the 31st minute. M Nicholas Zuchkowski, about 7 yards outside of the box, struck one into the top right corner of the net to give St Croix a 1-0 lead. That lead would be taken into halftime, however Peoria City was still dominating play. Shots after the first half were 14-3 in favor of Peoria City.

The second half was much of the same as Peoria City matched their shot total in the first half and ended the game with 28 shots. Peoria City just couldn’t find the back of the net. However they wouldn’t give up. At 90+5’ Marco Valero set up for a free kick in a last ditch effort. He centered the ball into the box, St. Croix cleared it to the top of the box where the ball was settled by GK Rimi Olatunji, and he fired one into the lower left corner of the net to tie the game in the dying seconds at 1 a piece.

Soon after, the referee blew the whistle signaling full time, ending the game in a 1-1 tie. Peoria City’s record moves to (2-2-1) 8pts, while St. Croix moves to (1-1-2) on the season with 4pts.

Peoria City will hit the road for the next two games taking on the Thunder Bay Chill, Friday June 10th. Then they will play again that Sunday, June 12th against FC Manitoba, before returning home to face the Des Moines Menace on June 22nd. Tickets for Peoria City home games start at just $5 and are available for purchase in advance online at peoriacitysoccer.com or by visiting Peoria City Five Bar locations The Fieldhouse Bar & Grill, The Fox Pub & Cafe and Pour Bros.
