Des Moines Menace Hands Peoria City First Loss, 4-2

PEORIA, IL (May 27, 2022) – Peoria City back at home following a six-point road trip was set to take on the defending USL League Two Champions the Des Moines Menace.

The first half was a back and forth contest between both sides. However, it was Des Moines striking first. Kori Cupid in the 23rd minute got his first of the evening, dribbling past goalkeeper Rimi Olatunji and putting the ball into the back of the net.

Peoria City fought back quickly, just six minutes later in the 29th minute Gevork Diarbian got his second goal of the season scoring in similar fashion to Des Moines. That brought the score even at 1, which is where it stood at the half.

In the second half, Des Moines once again struck first. Kori Cupid notched his second goal of the contest at the 56th minute to put Des Moines up 2-1. Des Moines controlled the game following that goal, until Peoria City struck back with an equalizer from Adria Sabater Olivas in the 74th minute.

Des Moines would not settle for the tie. Just five minutes later in the 79th minute Des Moines scored and broke the tie to make it 3-2. With momentum in Des Moines’ favor Joao Brum received a yellow card in the 81st minute, then a second yellow in the 82nd forcing Peoria City to play with 10 men for the rest of the game.

In the 92nd minute Des Moines got an insurance goal on a breakaway that found its way into the bottom left corner of the net, making it a 4-2 game, which ended up being the final score of the contest. Peoria City with that loss falls to (2-1-1, 7 points) and also drops to 2nd place in the Deep North Division, two points behind the Menace (3-0-0, 9 points).
