#1 ranked Peoria City takes down Stags on the road

(SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS) — Peoria City definitively takes the top spot among the USL League Two Great Plains Division after a 1-0 win in Springfield Saturday night.

Both Peoria City and Springfield FC entered the matched undefeated (both 3-0-0), but the away side Carp would secure the win, now the remaining undefeated squad in the Division.

In the 21st minute, Jeremy Saygbe (CD Alhaurino) crosses the ball for DJ Koulai (Bradley University), who would jump and knock the ball into the net mid-air. Carp go up 1-0.

A testy matchup would continue, but Peoria would hold the lead heading into half time.

Peoria would persist in the attacking half, but wouldn’t be able to find the net for the rest of the match.

In the 75th minute, Tanner Anderson (Saint Louis University) would launch a rocket just outside the box, hitting the football goal posts and stopping play.

Koulai would nearly get his second goal on the night in the 87th minute, but the keeper would make the save.

Samy Slimi was named Man of the Match after his second straight clean sheet performance.

Peoria City’s USL League Two side is back at home on Tuesday, June 3rd against Springfield FC.
